The First Weekend of Spring, Of Course
This morning it looked as though a fairy had flown through the neighborhood and sprinkled powdered sugar here and there...
some areas with a heavier hand than others...
and the fairy had cast a sleeping spell upon the daffodils that had just begun to sing their lovely springtime song...
and somehow this little fairy while busy about her sugary work outside managed to put our heating system to sleep as well...
and that is where the fairy tale ends! It was pretty chilly in our house this afternoon and evening.
We set up our space heater in the kitchen around dinner time, and shut the doors so that we could be cozy while we ate. I got our food ready while the kids played together. It felt very Little House on the Prairie, minus the wood-fire and the coyotes.
I pulled in some small chairs and a bench to use as a table, and the kids thought it was grand to eat this way. Christian said excitedly,"I've never eaten in the kitchen before!" A little after that he said,"We should eat like this all the time because we could just do this," and then he turned around to Michaela so that he could talk to her, and then he went on,"and then this...," and he turned back to his own place. Yes, that's right, because eating at the dinner table makes conversation very difficult. The wonder of something new is a fascinating thing. While Christian was enjoying this novel experience, Eliana was acting pretty normal for dinnertime...was she eating anything? No. Was she sitting still? No. I did manage to get her to have a cheesestick and a bowl of cereal, as well as a peanut butter spoon. Nothing like a well-rounded meal. I have no idea how she has such well-rounded cheeks, since she eats twenty-eight calories a day.
Someone came this evening to fix the watchamacallit downstairs; he found that some trigger thing was sticking, and the something else was firing too much, and that made the other thing shut off. I'm so glad that there are people out there who can help us! Our heat is on again, and it makes me so grateful for what we have.
The snow was mostly gone by 2:00 this afternoon, and I hope that the cold weather will follow quickly on its heels. What a way to end Spring Break!
School starts back up tomorrow, and I have clothes to get ready, an exercise video to do, some dishes to put in the washer, laundry to switch, a floor to clean, and oh! I also need to get some sleep. Good night!

What a bummer! But looks like you guys had fun and made the best of it! Hope you have enough energy to do all that you needed to do. :)
Yesterday when I saw your snow pictures, I was sure we were going to get some too. Thankfully, we only got rain and some colder temperatures. But seriously! It was 75 degrees on Saturday. This morning it was 41! Not cool. To heck with spring, I'm ready for summer. Or at least a trip to the beach.
Isn't it so great how kids think everything is wondrous and adventurous? It's a great reminder of how to live life..
I am SO READY for our weather to permanently warm up, too. We had some glimpses of 70 degrees, but then it went right back down to the 30's.
