A Wild Hair
There is no denying the fact that I am getting older. (I wrote golder. That would be awesome.) (If not heavy.)
The area around my eyes looks a lot like Mike's undershirts when they come out of the dryer after sitting all night. I have two chins (which Eliana likes to point out, and even draw), and some days I am pretty sure I am developing a third. (What can I say? I'm an overachiever.) Body parts and areas in general drag and droop, from head to toe. Well, my toes are not so much affected as other parts of my body, but I do think the older I get the stranger my feet look.
Back to my head. I have been going gray for a few years now. Or a few more than a few. I forget how old I am, but it was around my 30th birthday. Most of my grays are under the top layer of my dark brown hair, which is convenient when my hair is down, but they stand out when I wear a ponytail; those grays are like zebra stripes on the sides of my head.
Now, it's one thing to stand out in this stripey way, but the other day there was a hair that was altogether a little too proud, a little too anxious to stand out.
Do you see this not-so-humble white strand standing quite at attention?!
Here, let's take a closer look.
Please note that this kind of outrageous behavior will not be tolerated. I am taking a stand against hair that insists on standing out in such a straightforward manner. Or straightupward.
(Pluck!)

That is only funny because it's happening on your head and not mine. Aren't gray hairs weird? It's like they have a mind of their own. I found one growing OUT OF MY FOREHEAD yesterday. Why? Why? Thank heavens for good tweezers.
This post was funny! I love that you were almost getting golder. HA! I am right there with you on the gray hair. Trying to embrace it, but mostly just plucking it. :o)
I had to do that THIS morning! This gray hair curled in ways I never new a hair could!
Straight up?! Straight up!! Gray hairs are ridiculous. I remember when they were so few on my head that I noticed them. Now they are the norm. Which would you rather they find a cure for, gray hair, or baldness?
So funny! I have those, too. And mine are so obvious against my dark hair.
I think I'm going to take the hair-coloring plunge soon. (I've been saying that for about a year.)
I love that you took a picture and posted it!!
Missy Jill, I think that if we were talking about women going bald, then definitely baldness! I don't mind bald when speaking of males (especially one in particular). :) http://www.fivewalkers.com/he-saidshe-said/2008/11/21/november-20-2008.html
Here it is...12:45 a.m. - - I'm not sleeping very well at all do to losing my job. You know how I've told you that I like to wait for awhile & read your blogs...tonight was the night :)
Thanks for the best belly laugh that I've had in days...the gray hair at "attention". OMG...they are crazy, aren't they....a mind of their own for sure! Especially when you showed the close-up photo...(still laughing out loud!)
Love you!
P.S. I finally started dying mine back in August. I'm so lucky...I really don't have to, but I just wanted a little change. Guess I inherited some of the good genes!!
